Services

The Yale Program on Supervision offers a variety of services designed to improve the practice of supervision in publicly and privately funded health and human service organizations.

Needs Assessment

Every service is tailored to meet the needs of the organization requesting assistance and the unique characteristics of its staff. This is accomplished by conducting a needs assessment, which can be done informally or formally, with the latter approach using tools to examine the stage of organizational and staff readiness for change.

Supervisor Training & Development

A wide variety of options are available, which include the following:

  • Comprehensive skill building programs that use a number of model curricula tailored to specific audiences
  • Continuing education programs on supervision
  • Coaching of supervisors to promote skill development
  • Supervision of supervisors
  • Developing and supporting Supervisor Learning Communities in organizations or systems of care, fostering skill retention and continued professional development among supervisors
  • Leadership development focused on the skills of “managing from the middle” of an organization and managing effectively during periods of change
  • Training direct care staff in the effective use of supervision
  • Distance-delivered training and professional development
  • Train-the-Trainer programs to build capacity within an organization to educate and develop supervisors

Secondary Trauma & Burnout

Specialized programs are offered that develop organizational capacity and supervisor skills in addressing the impact of trauma, secondary trauma, and burnout among staff.

The Supervision Initiative has been of tremendous benefit to our Agency. We now have a recognized and accepted agency-wide supervision model, supervision standards, a supervision committee and a Learning Community dedicated to supervisors and their continued professional development needs. This initiative has impacted supervisors, direct care staff and clients throughout the agency, something that makes its benefits so unique.
